After certain experiences, influenced by our thoughts and emotions, we may sometimes feel extremely bad. In that moment, it can feel unavoidable.
The noise in our mind starts to speak, and we quickly become prisoners of those voices. Influenced by deeply rooted thoughts from our past, our emotions recreate old memories with striking realism.
At that point, we often believe these automatic thoughts as if they are real. But one thing we must never forget: emotions constantly change.
Pain, sorrow, sadness or happiness... All are temporary and part of a cycle. These are natural parts of life. Just as happiness is not permanent, neither is any pain we experience. We must remind ourselves of this.
How Do Emotions Work?
The word emotion comes from Latin and means “to move.” It arises as a response to events through our thoughts and reflects in our behaviors.
Our behaviors accumulate over time and shape our personality. That’s why when our thoughts change, our perspective on life changes—and this directly affects our life.
How Should You Approach Yourself?
Instead of judging or blaming ourselves when facing a problem, it is much healthier to approach ourselves with compassion and try to understand the reasons behind what we feel.
This is essentially telling ourselves: “I accept you as you are.”
Additionally, accepting the presence of pain or sadness and observing our emotions as if they are flowing helps remind us of their temporary nature and eases our mental burden.
Sometimes the problem is not as big as we think. We may simply not have learned how to be alone with our own mind yet.
